Olivia Wilde has parted ways with her husband Tao Ruspoli after eight years of marriage, with friends claiming one of the reasons for the split was that she felt she settled down too young.

A source said: "Olivia got married really young. She's done a lot of growing since then, just like anyone would... they've just grown in different directions."

Another insider told Usmagazine.com: "They have been separated for a while. It was Olivia's decision...for the typical Hollywood reasons.

"Her career has exploded and she saw being married is not as much fun. She feels she missed out on being single getting married so young, and wants to sow her wild oats."

Pals of the actress also admit her escalating career made her reassess her personal life.

One said: "She is a hot property now ... it was weighing her down being married."

Though the split has been described as amicable, Tao is said to be devastated.

A source said: “He is heartbroken and really wanted to stay together."

Olivia and filmmaker Tao -- son of the late Italian Prince Dado Ruspoli -- met when she was just 18, and the pair got married after just six months of dating. She previously admitted it wasn’t wasn't a conventional wedding.

She said: "We eloped. There was nothing traditional about it."
